H. S. Vigeveno is my "author" name. Why? Because I came with my parents and sisters to the USA in 1939 from the Netherlands. My mother named me Henk. I didn't want to change that. So writing as "H. S. Vigeveno" avoided the issue. Besides, C. S. Lewis did it, so why can't I? I did not change my name when I was drafted into the U.S. Navy, nor when I became a U.S. citizen in 1945.
In those days I was an agnostic, and became a Christian in my early 20s. Since I came from outside the church, I still want to reach those who are outside [as well as inside] with the good news. This motivates my ministry, broadcasting, books and this website.
When I came to Hollywood in the 60s, I walked the streets and knocked on doors inviting people to the church of which I was pastor. They were not interested. 99 out of 100 did not accept the invitation! One day I started asking would they come to a group for skeptics? "Yes!" they said. And that's how we started, "Skeptics Only." Every Sunday morning they gathered to ask questions in my office [we had donuts and coffee, but no smoking]. Since those days I have continued these groups for skeptics and seekers. And that is why I have broadcast most often on secular radio stations.
While now retired I continue teaching and preaching, including teaching at Bethel Seminary, San Diego.
